This page covers Mumblark, the voice game that plays on this website, mumblark.com, and the Mumblark waitlist. It says what each one keeps, who else handles it, and how to ask about it or complain. For anything on this page, write to hello@mumblark.com.

The game and your microphone

  • Mumblark uses your microphone only while you record a take. Your browser asks you first, the first time a player taps Record.
  • The recordings stay in your browser and are never sent to us or to anyone else. They are gone when you start a new line or close the page.
  • The names you type stay in the page too, and are gone when you close it. The game needs no account and no sign-in, shows no ads and sells nothing.
  • The drift score is worked out on your phone from how long each take is and how its loudness rises and falls. Nothing listens to or keeps the words.

The waitlist

If you join the Mumblark waitlist, we keep your e-mail address only to tell you when the Mumblark app is out. We keep it on this site’s own server, give it to no one and never sell it. That one e-mail lets you leave the list in one click, or write to hello@mumblark.com and we delete your address. You join by choice, and you can leave at any time.

If we use a mailing service to send that e-mail, this page will name it before the e-mail is sent.

This website

  • No analytics, no advertising and no tracking pixels, and no cookies of our own for visitors.
  • Like every web server, ours writes a line for each request (the page asked for, the time, your IP address and your browser’s name). We use it only to keep the site running and to stop attacks, and it is deleted after at most eight days.
  • To stop one visitor from flooding the waitlist, the site counts sign-up tries for an hour under a scrambled code made from the IP address, never the address itself, and forgets the count after that hour.
  • Cloudflare sits in front of the site. It delivers the pages and blocks attacks, so it handles your IP address and the request on their way through. If Cloudflare has to check that a visitor is a person, it may set a short-lived security cookie for that check (Cloudflare’s privacy policy).

When you write to us

Mail to hello@mumblark.com goes through Cloudflare Email Routing to the mailbox we read, which Google hosts. We use your message and your address only to answer you and to fix what you told us about, and we delete the thread once it is no longer needed for that.

Children

The game keeps nothing from anyone, children included. The waitlist is for adults; if a child has joined it, write to hello@mumblark.com and we delete the address.

Your rights, and how to complain

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, at hello@mumblark.com. The game holds nothing of yours on our side, so in practice this means the mail you sent us and, if you joined it, your address on the waitlist. If you are unhappy with how we handled your data, complain to us at the same address: we confirm we have your complaint within 30 days and tell you the outcome. In the UK you can also complain to the Information Commission (ico.org.uk), and in the EU to the data protection authority where you live.

When this page changes, the date at the top changes with it.
